SR 260 Doubtful Canyon Project Blog Post

ADOT is improving a segment of State Route 260 through Doubtful Canyon, about 20 miles east of Payson. When the project is completed in 2012, the two-lane roadway will be a four-lane divided highway. Please see our blog post and short video for details on the project.

Blasting scheduled on SR 260 east of Payson

Drivers should expect 45-minute delays

The Arizona Department of Transportation will close a two-mile segment of State Route 260, approximately 20 miles east of Payson at 10 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 1). The highway will be closed for up to 45 minutes to provide a safe work zone for crews as they conduct blasting operations on the Doubtful Canyon Project, which will widen the highway west of the Christopher Creek campground. Eastbound traffic will be stopped at approximately milepost 269 and westbound traffic will be stopped at approximately milepost 271.

Beginning Monday (Dec. 5), blasting is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Jan. 26, 2012.

ADOT advises drivers to allow extra time to reach their destinations. Speed limits are reduced and a width restriction of 10 feet remains in place. Message boards, temporary barricades, and signage will guide motorists through the route.

The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
