Officials at the Pine-Strawberry Community Center, 3916 N. Highway 87, want residents to know they are ready and willing to help — from serving a hot cooked meal to organizing game and movie nights.

“I want to let everyone know that we are here,” said Rhonda Bossert, thrift store manager. “So many people sit at home and we don’t know if they are even fed. Maybe it is pride that keeps them from coming in or maybe they don’t know these services are available, but we are here to help.”

The center currently serves lunch every day, at a cost of $4 for Senior Citizens Affairs Foundation (SCAF) members and $5 for non-members.

It costs $5 to join SCAF, which is open to full- or part-time P-S residents who are 50 years of age and older.

Suddenlink Adds 100-Plus Channels in Payson, Pine, Strawberry

Introduces All-Digital TV Lineup, Faster Internet Speeds in Pine, Strawberry

PAYSON, Ariz. (Feb. 14, 2012) – Suddenlink has completed an upgrade to the superior picture and sound quality of all-digital TV in Payson, Pine and Strawberry, introduced more than 100 TV channels, including high-definition (HD) channels, and introduced faster Internet speed options in Pine and Strawberry.

The upgrade is part of a larger program that calls for more than $10 million of capital investments in Arizona and two California communities in 2011 and 2012. The Payson, Pine and Strawberry upgrade project began Jan. 18. Customers were notified directly as changes took place.

Suddenlink has introduced two new High Speed Internet service options for residential customers in Pine and Strawberry with download speeds of up 10 and 15 Megabits per second (Mbps). The new services are called, respectively, Suddenlink High Speed Internet 10.0 and 15.0. Suddenlink High Speed Internet 15.0 is believed to be the fastest residential Internet service in the area. These services were introduced earlier in Payson.

After completion of the upgrade project, Suddenlink’s new Advanced Digital TV local lineup in Payson features more than 75 new HD TV channels, more than 45 new digital channels and five new Basic channels. In Pine and Strawberry, the new lineup includes more than 90 new HD TV channels, more than 135 new digital channels, and more than 15 new Basic channels. With these additions, and by customer demand, the Pine and Strawberry TV lineups are the same as in Payson.

Suddenlink customers have received new TV lineup cards by mail, and also can access lineups by going to the website Suddenlink.com.

HDTV offers a widescreen format, similar to a movie theater, with distinctly sharper and clearer images than standard TV. It also provides better sound quality. Not all networks or stations offer HD programming.

Two new “HD Broadcast” tier channels include broadcast stations – KAZT HD (IND) and KTAZ HD (Telemundo).

More than 40 HD channels are available on Suddenlink’s “HD Basic” tier of service, which is available free to customers who lease the equipment required to enable HD viewing. Among them are: ESPN HD, Fox Sports Arizona HD, TNT HD, TBS HD, USA HD, Lifetime HD, Discovery HD, TLC HD, Animal Planet HD, History HD, AMC HD, ABC Family HD, Disney HD, Nickelodeon HD, FX HD, Spike TV HD, Syfy HD, CNN HD and MTV HD.

Suddenlink customers must have an HD television set connected to a Suddenlink HD receiver (or another HD receiver with a Suddenlink cable card) in order to view “HD Basic” channels. Suddenlink’s “HD Broadcast” channels can be viewed without a Suddenlink HD receiver or cable card, if customers have HD televisions sets with a built-in QAM tuner. Television set manufacturers and/or retailers should be able to verify whether or not an HD set has a built-in QAM tuner.

Payson, Strawberry and Pine area Suddenlink customers also will have access to Pay-Per-View programming and many new digital channel options, including premium channels like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and Starz in both standard-definition and HD formats. They also will be able to choose from digital packages including sports, movie and variety channels. Included in the sports tier is the NFL Network, Sportsman Channel, Outdoor Channel and Golf Channel. The popular NFL RedZone package also is available.

Suddenlink expects to introduce its video on demand (VOD) service and TV Caller ID in Payson, Pine and Strawberry as early as late February. Suddenlink also plans to offer even faster Internet speed options.

More information about Suddenlink services is available by visiting suddenlink.com and entering an address and zip code, by calling toll-free 800-896-5701, or by visiting the Suddenlink customer care store at 632 N. Beeline Highway in Payson.
